Animation Classes for Kids of all ages

Uncommon Films

Animation is medium that combines many elements: art, media, math, physics and media literacy. It is an ideal art activity for school children because it is engaging, interactive and suitable for all learning styles--plus it's a great way for kids to apply what they've learned in other disciplines.

Students learn the basics of animation history,  animation techniques, camera operations, script creation, sound and editing then work as a group on their own animated film which is then burned onto a take home DVD or VHS tape.

Uncommon Films offers a variety of programs for schools, as well as community centers, museums, and libraries. Programs are available for nearly every group, size and budget.

Our Mobile animation studio enables us to hold workshops virtually anywhere an electrical outlet is available!

Our animation workshops give students the unique opportunity to produce their very own animated short film. No two workshops are EVER the same. Students often return to take multiple workshops to experience a new format and project each time.

Films produced by many students of the Uncommon Animation Workshops have gone on to win multiple awards, accolades and critical acclaim as they screen for television and film festival audiences world wide.

Each workshop is tailored to the individual group of students and is led by acclaimed animation director Mary McKay. Ms. McKay is a graduate of California Institute of the Arts, and an experienced educator in both art and media. She has taught in Southern California for over 10 years and travels extensively bringing her workshops to young animators throughout the USA, Canada and Europe.
